LOS ANGELES —
The cause of death of “Austin Powers” actor Verne Troyer has been revealed months after he passed.
The Los Angeles Times reported that the Los Angeles County coroner said the actor, who played Mini-Me in the “Austin Powers” franchise, died from the effects of alcohol and his death was ruled a suicide.
Troyer was hospitalized with suspected alcohol poisoning three weeks before his April 21 death at age 49.
In 2017, Troyer announced he was receiving treatment to get help with alcohol addiction.
“As you know, I’ve battled alcohol addiction in the past and while it’s not always been an easy fight, I’m willing to continue my fight day by day,” he said in a statement on his Facebook page.
“Depression and Suicide are very serious issues,” Troyer’s family said in a statement after his death. “You never know what kind of battle someone is going through inside. Be kind to one another. And always know, it’s never too late to reach out to someone for help.”
